Aberdeenshire residents to receive free energy upgrades
Hundreds of Aberdeenshire residents are to be offered free thermal insulation following the extension of an energy efficiency initiative.
Deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced the allocation of an additional £190,000 for the Universal Home Insulation Scheme, the Ellon Times reports.
The programme aims to help people make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat, by providing free loft and cavity wall insulation.
Around 800 properties will be eligible to apply for up to £500 worth of vouchers, which will be used to fund the energy efficiency improvements.
Ms Sturgeon commented: "This is the kind of vital help which can make a real difference to those struggling to make ends meet and demonstrates we will do whatever we can within devolved powers to tackle fuel poverty."
She added that "solid action is absolutely imperative" ahead of the cold weather and as households start to see the implications of falling temperatures and rising energy bills.
