Boris Johnson launches energy efficiency scheme for London schools
In effect, the initiative is an extension of the RE:FIT efficiency programme current offered to London homeowners.
It will provide school head teachers and governors technical advice and energy audits for free while also giving them access to interest free pay-as-you-save loans from Salix Finance.
"Making London schools more energy efficient not only saves money and protects the environment it also boosts the economy and creates jobs - an A*-grade idea in anyone's book," Mr Johnson said in a statement.
He added that the programme is an opportunity for schools to play a role in making London the world's greenest city.
Figures from the Mayor's Office state that improvements in 200 London schools could reduce energy bills by a collective £32 million.
Recently, home value website OurProperty.co.uk said that installing insulation is the best way of keeping energy costs down.
