Check homes for thermal insulation, people advised

Proper thermal insulation is important in order to prevent heat loss around the home, people have been advised.

Writing for US publication the Reading Eagle, interior designer Rosemary Sadez Friedmann gave homeowners a range of tips on how to refurbish their property.

She reminded individuals of the importance of proper lagging and the benefits it can provide in making a building more energy efficient.

Ms Friedmann commented that "the attic stair opening is the largest gap in home insulation" and therefore, it is an important place to check for adequate heating insulation.

Other areas she recommended assessing included whether buildings needed wall insulation and the loft space in general.

Failing to have adequate wadding installed could result in the loss of not just heat but also cool air provided by air conditioning units in the warmer summer months, it was suggested.

In a recent article for the Daily Telegraph, Rose Murray-West noted that wall insulation is one of the best ways to make a home more energy efficient.
