Keep homes warm with wall insulation, says expert
Wall insulation can help to prevent heat loss from the home and is something older people may want to consider investing in, it has been suggested.
The Western Mail describes how cold winters can put the elderly at risk and gave readers suggestions on how best to protect themselves as the temperature drops.
As well as wearing more layers and keeping the house warm, the publication recommended spending money on professional renovations such as adding thermal insulation to stop energy being lost.
"Loft and cavity wall insulation and double glazing will stop the heat in your home from escaping, while an effective heating system will heat your home for less."
Failing to stay warm in extreme weather can lead to people becoming ill, the paper warned.
The Energy Saving Trust explained that homes built before 1920 are more likely to have solid walls, which can lose twice the amount of heat as cavity walls.
