Smaller firms 'now provide better energy services'
A new report has suggested smaller energy firms are now providing better deals for consumers than the Big Six.
GoCompare, a price comparison website, has conducted research which shows Ovo Energy offers the cheapest energy tariff in the UK.
Jeremy Cryer, energy spokesman at Gocompare.com, said: "Consumers are becoming increasingly aware that small suppliers work to the same rules as the big providers and are often competitive on price and customer service."
However, consumer group Which? suggested this research shows just how the energy market is failing consumers in the UK.
Which?'s own study analysed customer satisfaction within the sector, with Good Energy, an independent supplier, topping the list for a third consecutive year.
With a score of 82 per cent, it shared the number one spot with Ecotriticy, while the average dropped from 49 per cent to 41 per cent.
The Competition and Markets Authority is set to investigate the energy industry after there were suggestions of price correlation.
