Sustainable measures 'save tenant £1,000 a year'
A property in Heywood has been transformed into an energy-efficient home in the hope it will inspire sustainable redevelopment.
Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale and renewable energy specialists AlternEnergy worked together to install a variety of eco-friendly measures including heating insulation throughout the home, Rochdale Online reports.
It is thought the new tenant will save more than £1,000 a year on energy bills thanks to the ex-council house's solar panels, LED lighting and insulation.
Domestic energy manager at Rochdale Council Paul Roberts explained how the property is designed to the set standard for landlords who are interested in adopting green methods.
He said: "There is an increasing need to look beyond basic insulation measures and traditional heating systems in order to drive down green house gas emissions and reduce fuel bills for the occupier."
The news comes after the Scottish Green Party recently pledged to install heating insulation in all homes across the country, as reported in the Scotsman.
