SWIGA: Homeowners should act now
The Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA) is urging households to take advantage of the government's Green Deal to make their properties more energy efficient.
Last week (June 9th), ministers introduced a new raft of measures to provide financial support for those looking to install improvements to their homes to help save on their gas and electricity bills.
One of the subsidies on offer is a grant of up to £6,000 - or 75 per cent of the total cost - to claim against having solid wall insulation (SWI) fitted.
SWIGA general manager Steve Tanner said: "An astounding 45 per cent of heat can leak through un-insulated solid walls, so installing SWI is a step that householders can take to save money and energy."
Mr Tanner estimated between six and seven million properties could benefit from insulating their solid walls in the UK, which can protect a building against the weather, as well as stop heat from escaping.
