Under floor heating laid at new music venue in Leicester

Under floor heating is one of the many innovations that has been installed at the new Leicester O2 Academy, which is due to open this week.

The venue has been built as part of a £15.5 million redevelopment of the city's university student union, the Leicester Mercury reports.

A variety of modern technology has been fitted throughout the building, including a £1 million lighting rig and a custom-designed PA system.

The publication noted that "no expense has been spared".

Talking about the decision to install the radiation devices, technical manager Ed Jackson said: "Well it's a multipurpose building so there will be other events that won't be gigs, like conferences."

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. is to play the first gig in the Academy 2 room tonight (September 21st) and the main venue will host Professor Green on Thursday.

American band The Goo Goo Dolls are set to appear on stage on November 17th.
