Tewkesbury residents told of wall insulation grants

Members of the public in Tewkesbury could reduce their gas and electricity bills by thousands of pounds over a few years by applying for free loft and wall insulation.

Grants are available at present but this will not be the case in the near future, Severn Wye Energy Agency assistant chief executive Kaye Welfare said.

As well as cavity wall insulation, people will soon be able to receive assistance for the refurbishment of solid walls, she remarked.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, dry lining insulation is required when improving the sustainability of a property without a wall space, with this renovation saving approximately £475 every year.

Residential services manager for Tewkesbury Borough Council David Steels pointed out 9.3 per cent of all households in the borough - or 3,221 properties - are in fuel poverty.

"Everyone can now get free cavity wall insulation," Ms Welfare stated, adding certain individuals will not have to pay for thermal insulation in the attic.
