Waltham Forest residents benefit from solid wall insulation

Hundreds of households in Waltham Forest have been able to lower their gas and electricity bills after a local initiative installed their properties with thermal insulation.

A partnership between non-profit organisation Ascham Homes and carbon reduction firm Climate Energy - which was agreed in March this year - was set up to improve energy efficiency in homes that are typically difficult to heat up, EcoFriend News reports.

This saw more than 600 houses fitted with either solid wall insulation, loft insulation or a combination of the two, while the scheme has also reduced local carbon emissions by 35,363 tonnes.

Jo Murphy, deputy chief executive of Ascham Homes, claimed the company is delighted with the success of the project and it is great to see programmes like this moving forward.

"Not only will this improve the carbon footprint in the Borough, but residents are reporting a significant improvement in heating and fuel management within their homes," she was quoted as saying.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, external solid wall insulation can save homeowners around £475 a year, while internal insulation will save £445.
