Peterborough Council to offer 2,300 households free insulation

Peterborough Council has become the latest local authority to attempt to help residents cut their fuel bills by offering them access to insulation services.

The council's Heataborough scheme will be aimed at around 2,300 households over the course of the next two years and offers cavity wall and loft insulation for free.

It will also allow people who own their properties but are in receipt of benefits or the state pension to have their boiler repaired or replaced.

Councillor Nigel North said that all residents in the city should have access to energy which is safe, clean and affordable.

He added: "Not only will the scheme help reduce energy bills it will also reduce the city’s carbon footprint and help make Peterborough a healthier and greener place to live."

Earlier this week, Hillingdon Council announced that it would be offering external wall insulation to residents thanks to funding through the government's Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.
